Ukrainian intelligence reported that Russia has started bringing back their reserve T-62 tanks from storage to re-equip Russian Army Battalion Tactical Groups for deployment to Ukraine.
This is already a sign that Russia has indeed lost a lot of their current generation of T-72 tanks, which forms the bulk of tank losses in Ukraine.
Russia appears to be keeping their T-90 and T-80 tanks closer at home for future contingency, as Russian tank production cannot keep up with the losses.
The T-62 was the tank replaced by the T-72 and T-80 in Soviet Red Army service, and was already considered obsolete even in the 1970s, and was inferior to the German Leopard 1, French AMX-30, British Chieftain, and newer variants of the American M60 Patton tank.
If Germany provide Ukraine with the old Leopard 1s, then they have a good chance of fighting Russian forces armed with T-62.
