답은 goes입니다. '진리나 보편적인 사실'은 보통 현재형으로 씁니다.
ex) 인생은 짧고 예술은 길다 = Life is short and Art is long.
진리나 보편적인 사실은 그때 잠깐 그랬었고 끝나는게 아니니까요.
지구로 예를 들면, 지구가 태양 주위를 도는 것은 '보편적인 사실'입니다. 앞으로 계속 지구가 안 돌것은 아니니까요.
또, 반복되는 경우에도 현재형을 쓰기도 합니다.
ex) The train arrives at 8:00. (항상 예외없이 8시에 도착한다는 것입니다. 앞으로도 계속 8시에 도착할 예정이기 때문에 현재형을 쓰는 것입니다.)

ing의 경우는 '진행되고 있는 모습'을 보여준다는 느낌입니다.(진행태)
ex) she is playing baseball. = 현재 '야구'라는 것을 하고 있는 '상태'인 것입니다. (앞으로 또 야구를 하고 있을지는 모릅니다. 그냥 하고 있는 '모습' 그 자체입니다.)
또, 가까운 미래(그렇게 하기로 계획이 되어있음. will과는 다름)를 나타내기도 합니다. (be going to V)
ex) i'm going to see the doctor. = 병원갈 일이 있다는 뜻.(그렇게 하기로 계획해놨음)
하나하나 뜯어서 살펴보자면, be동사인 am은 '상태'를 나타냅니다. going은 간다는 뜻이죠. to는 '방향'입니다. 방향에는 타겟이 필요하죠. (to Sth) 그러므로, '나는 doctor를 see하는 쪽으로 가고 있는 상태이다.' = 그렇게 할 예정이다가 되는 것입니다.)
아무튼, 동사에 ing가 붙어버리면 포지션은 동사가 아니게 됩니다. 위에서 말했듯이, ing가 붙으면 '뭔가가 진행되고 있는 모양새'가 됩니다. 어떤 행동이나 동작을 말하는 동사의 성격과는 멀어지게 되죠.(다만, be동사는 '상태'를 나타냅니다. 그래서 be ing의 형태로 쓰입니다. 위의 예문에서, 그녀는 야구를 '하고 있는' 상태가 되는 겁니다.)
다만, 동사의 기능을 잃었지만 성격까지 100% 잃어버리는 것은 아닙니다.

과거는, 시간을 수직선으로 나타내었을때 '점'으로 나타낼 수 있습니다.
ex) I knew her
그렇기 때문에 그게 현재까지 이어지지는 않습니다.
위의 문장은 그래서 '과거에는 그녀를 알았지만, 지금은 모른다'라는 느낌을 줄 수 있습니다.
그러므로, 과거형을 쓰게 된다면, 지구는 과거 어느 때에 태양 주변을 돌긴 돌았는데, 지금은 돌지 않는 셈이 되어버립니다.

미래 표현에는 will이 있습니다.
will의 다른 뜻으로는 '의지'라는 뜻이 있는데요, 자신의 의지로써 앞으로 뭔가를 하겠다는 식의 뉘앙스로 받아들이시면 될지도 모르겠네요.
ex) I will go shopping = 나는 쇼핑을 갈거다. (물론 be going to V의 형태가 아니기 때문에, 계획되어 있어서 반드시 가는 것은 아니고, 내 의지(will)로 가는 것이기 때문에, 꼬우면 안 갈수도 있습니다.)
